Canada. I'm grateful everyday that I was born a Canadian and get to live in this great country of ours. For a multitude of reasons that I won't go into now. There is however something that irks me about Canadians. For some reason we don't seem to use the internet as an effective business tool in comparison to American businesses. I came to this conclusion after my own unscientific experiment.
For the past couple of years I have been doing more and more of my Christmas shopping via the internet. I avoid the crowds and craziness of the malls, I can shop anytime of the day or night, in my PJ's, sitting in a comfy chair with a cup of tea. I don't have to hunt down sales people for help. I don't have to rush to 12 different stores looking for that one item. Everything is laid out on front of me and a few clicks of my mouse has my purchases on their way to my house.
However the number of Canadian retailers online is minimal compared to those from the US. Retailing giant Wal Mart has a beautiful online store at www.walmart.com. Only available to US residents. They do offer a Canadian site at www.walmartcanada.com, but at this time they don't offer shopping and according to the site have no plans to offer online shopping in the near future. Why is that?
Christmas is over, so why am I getting so worked up about shopping online now you ask? Well Mike and I have been talking about adding some items to our business this summer to go along with our inflatable bouncer. One thing we really want to add is a sno cone machine. Go to any search engine and type in sno cone machine. Instantly you'll have dozens of web sites at your disposal. Not one of them from Canada. I'm sure they sell sno cone machines here in Canada. I mean they have to right? Why hasn't even one of those businesses made itself a web site the average joe or jane can find?
My quest continues. Wish me luck!
