Finally after more than a solid week of unbearable humidity we had a nice refreshing breeze today. Poor Abby was getting quite cranky about not being able to go outside and play with her sandbox whenever she felt like it. And believe me she felt like it alot. Try explaining to a three year old that they can't go out to play because they'll spontaneously combust if they spend more than 30 seconds outside. Believe me it doesn't go over well. Thank goodness for the Heffalump movie, watching that is almost as good as going outside.
I set up the kiddie pool that we got for her last year. She's definitley outgrown it, but she's still happy to stand in it, drink the water, throw "helicopter seeds" in it (by the handful), dump sand in it from her sandbox and so on. I put Abby in her new Dora bikini to play in her pool and my very modest daughter was quite concerned that her midriff was exposed. She spent several minutes yanking the top down until it touched the bottoms only to have it spring back up the second she let go. She did not like my explanation that her belly button was supposed to be showing. Mike hopes she keeps her distaste for bikinis well into her teens.
Mike and I have decided to get a pool. We'd been talking about it for a little while now. You see Mike's not a traveller. He doesn't have any real urge to see the world in a broad scope. One day we'd like to go to New York City, Las Vegas and back to Florida, but we aren't likely to go to Europe or down to one of the islands. I say it's Mike, but I'm pretty much a homebody myself. Add that to the nature of our business and if we ever were to travel somewhere we couldn't go in the summer months. Not in the forseeable future anyway. So we agreed that a pool would be a good idea. Mike thought in a couple of years once the van was paid off we'd put in an above ground pool. Everywhere we go these days we see those blue easy set pools. You know the ones, they're like a big blue sack with an inflated ring around the top. For about $100 we could have one big enough for us to get in with Abby and cool off. The best part is I just got a $125 gift certificate to Canadian Tire as a bonus from work.... so Yippee!!!! Free pool!!
Hydro Bill Update: The hydro company now owes us $174.00. How cool is that? I wonder what next month's bill will be like since the A/C's been running like crazy for the last 10 days.
A First: Abby had her first shower. I cut the grass tonight while she played in and out of her pool and sandbox. Somehow while she was playing her diaper came undone and she poopied in her shorts. It was already bedtime so I didn't want to go the bath route with the bubbles and toys and all that entails. So I asked her if she wanted to have a shower with Mommy. I don't think she quite knew what she was agreeing to, but she was excited about it. Then we actually got in the shower. She thought it was great for a minute until she realized the water would be running on her all the time. Not like when we pour a cup of water over her head in the tub. She was good though, no crying or anything. I taught her how to stand so the water's just hitting your back, that she liked. She wasn't too fond of having her hair rinsed, but she didn't complain. I wonder if she'll want to do it again.
