Ding Dong

So as I lay on the couch this afternoon taking a much deserved nap the doorbell for the front door began chiming away. Now anybody that knows us would go to the back door and walk right in, skipping the doorbell all together, so you know that anybody at the front door must being selling something. Now usually it's a guy from one of the new natural gas companies who wants to see your gas bill so he can show you how you're getting ripped off by the gas company you're currently with and how much better it would be if you were getting ripped off by them instead. These guys seem to have some sort of mystical powers because whenever they show up Mike goes tripping off to get our gas bill for them to peruse. That's when I, playing the role of the bitchy wife, has to step in and shoo the offending gas rep off our front porch empty handed.

So the doorbell chimes and since it's a Saturday afternoon I figure it's safe enough to let Mike answer the door himself. These troublesome gas reps always seem to show up around dinner time through the week so at worst it's some kids selling something. Mike opens the door and I can hear him say hey guys what are you selling? Oh you're selling your hockey cards! Yep that's right. The kids from across the street were selling their hockey cards door to door. Now if you know Mike you know he's a softie so I was pretty certain that we're going to be the proud owners of a used hockey card or two in mere moments. Mike actually joined the kids outside on the porch to really look over their cards. I could see major wheeling and dealing being done through the curtains.

When negotiations were complete the kids walked away $4.50 richer and Mike's purchase of 9 hockey cards expanded his collection to... well 9 hockey cards. I think, overall, he did okay. We ended up with (all Maple Leafs btw) a '93 Felix Potvin, '02 Sundin, '00 Kaberle, '01 Sundin, Borschevsky Rookie, '89 Daoust, '90 Iafrate, '89 Olczyk and a '92 Wendel Clark. You've got to give the kids props for thinking outside of the box on that one. I wonder how they did with the rest of the street. Or maybe I have the only husband who can't say no to little kids when they're selling something. Lucky for me if I do!

Haha. I tried to sell McDonald's toys once and made a whopping nickel off the girl next door who bought a matchbox car.

Come to think of it, I used to sell a lot of crap... I'll have to blog about it sometime.
