Well Michael is healing up quite nicely from his surgery. He has a cast on that he will have to wear for the next two weeks. It goes without saying that it limits his ability to really do much of anything. It is also making him extremely stir crazy and we're only four days in. He's lucky that he has such a patient and compassionate wife. Well he used to have a patient and compassionate wife. She seems to be AWOL this weekend, however.
I am trying very hard to find her and bring her back. I hate to think what might happen if I don't. You see I'm already tired and worn out from this hugely pregnant belly I have to carry around everywhere I go. The one that makes my feet swell, kicks at my bladder, bounces on my sciatic nerve and keeps me peeing every 20 minutes. So that means every 20 minutes I'm pulling up my own pants. And every time Abby goes to the bathroom I must monitor her TP usage and pull up her pants. And everytime Mike goes to the bathroom I must be available to pull up his pants. Anytime any of us needs to take a bath/shower I must be there to either help them in or out, sometimes both, wash body parts that can't be reached and so on. Anytime somebody wants something to eat I need to be involved. Get the picture?
Don't get me wrong I love my family dearly and I truly appreciate how fortunate we are. Mike being out of comission is only temporary. It's not something we have to adjust to long term. I can understand that it's not just frusterating for me, but also for him and probably to a lesser extent Abby. With a little luck we'll be able to come through this with only minimal yelling. Wish us luck.
Papa Brian came home from his hunting trip on Saturday, so in honour of that and as a little get well gift to Mike, Abby and I baked a cake. On the Friday before Halloween Abby had made sugar cookies at the babysitter's. She came home with a little bag of ghosts, pumpkins and Frankensteins, which actually tasted very good. Ever since then she's been obsessed with baking. She even took her own cookie cutters to the sitter's the next time she went because she was convinced they'd be making cookies again. So Saturday I let her pick a cake mix out of my stash (I stocked up when they were on sale for a dollar a box). She picked a rainbow bits mix and we were on our way. Abby's actually a good person to bake with, she's very complimentary. I lost count of how many times I heard "great idea Mommy" or "good job Mommy". So I measured out the ingredients and she poured them in and made no mess while she was doing it, bonus for me. We did run into a bit of problems mastering the egg cracking, but we managed to pick all the shell out. Abby even thought using the electric mixer was fun, which surprised me since she's terrified of the Swiffer Sweeper Vac. So with the cake mixed I poured it into the pan and let Abby lick the spoon "like a lollipop". Abby did watch her creation through the oven glass for about a second and a half before she got bored and went off on her merry way. The cake came out 38 minutes later done to perfection. Abby spent the rest of the day bragging about her birthday cake and since about half of it went missing after dinner I'd say she did a pretty good job.
