Firsts

I know I have mentioned before that I have the most amazing sitter in the world. Way back in the day she used to baby sit Michael so she's definitley experienced. Also her prices haven't changed since the 70's so that's a huge bonus for us. Not to mention she offers a discount on subsequent children. She's more than incredibly flexible in regards to pick up and drop off times and even does overnights. Of course all that pales in comparison to the fact that she loves my daughter. That's a sure way into any mother's heart, love their children. Lyn and Lloyd will tell you that any child that spends time there is considered family and you certainly can tell. We are lucky to have her. It makes having to work easier when I know that Abby is so well taken care of.

Just to further prove that Lyn truly is an angel on earth, she runs a weekly kids club at her Church. Yep that's right folks, after watching kids all day, once a week she heads over to the church and organizes craft activities for the 30ish kids that show up. Oh and did I mention she funds this endeavour from her very own pocket? Usually the age range for kids club is 6 and up, but for the month of December she opens it up for kids 4 and up so they can do some Christmas crafts. Of course she comes up with the ideas for the crafts, usually a couple of different crafts, something suitable for the younger ones and a little more involved for the older ones. And let's not forget the baking, yep they bake too. She's been asking all month if Abby could come out to the kids club on Wednesday nights, but that's the same night as her gymnastics and Abby's just worn out after her class. It would have been just a bit too much for her all in one night. Last week the kids painted wooden stockings and then decorated them. Since Abby didn't get a chance to go Lyn let them do the craft at her place the next day. So Mike and I are the proud owners of Abby's very first Christmas craft. Lyn let her pick the colour to paint her stocking (yellow) and together they painted a little girl in a purple snowsuit to glue on it. It was very cute. Gymnastics is on holiday shut down for two weeks so we're planning on sending Abby to kids club this week. I can't wait to see what they'll make next.

Abby had one more first this week. Her first haircut. On top of every thing else Lyn's also a hair dresser. How handy is that? Now she does have bangs, so she has had her hair cut before, but I don't think that really counts. The length of her hair hasn't been touched since she was born, so at three and a half it's down to her waist. I will admit was a bit much for a little girl. Mike and I have been discussing getting it done for a couple of weeks. Of course Mike's idea of a hair cut and mine were two different things. Mike was suggesting having it brought up to her shoulders. I figured I was already giving in a whole lot even discussing a trim. So Thursday afternoon when we were picking up Abby I bit the bullet and asked Lyn to give her a cut the following day. By the time we got her Friday after work her hair was about 6 inches shorter. The length carefully saved in a ziploc bag for her memory box.
