One of the problems with Maya is whatever worked yesterday is probably not likely to work today. Sometimes rocking would work, sometimes I'd have to walk around, sometimes she'd want a bottle and other times not. I finally arrived at the conclusion that I was going to have to start some sort of sleep training. I had been reluctant to do this because of her age. I felt she was too young, but the sleep issues are really getting out of hand. Not to mention Mike and I are getting a mite testy with each other. I mean if you're up at 2 am with a crying baby you might as well throw in a fight with your spouse as well right? It's either that or watch Ron Popeil hawking yet another amazing invention that you simply cannot live another minute without. Since I'm the suggestable type before you know it my closets would be bulging with Ding Kings, Miracle Blade III's, Ulitmate Choppers and at least a half a dozen pairs of Blue Blockers.
Now Maya will always sleep if cuddled in bed between her Dad and I, but I'm not down with that for a number of reasons. One being her tumble out on to the wood floors last week. More importantly though, it's my bed. As in mine. As in I want to sleep in it. We have a three (plus 1) bedroom house with three beds, one for each of us. I drew short straw and have to sleep with Michael, but I've made my peace with that. So other than sleeping with mer Dad and I, I've been trying to pick up on any other consistent sleep patterns that Maya has. So far I have found only one. She likes to sleep face down on her tummy.
Here she is desparately trying to get her face to Breanne's towel so she could sleep. That's exactly how she sleeps in bed too. Hands on either side of her head, face right on the mattress.
Luckily Robin was there to rescue her. Towel to the face and she was out like a light.
So putting her to bed on her stomach has helped. In fact the last 2 nights out of three she's slept through the night without incident. Here's hoping that's the beginning of a trend.
