So as you might have guessed Dave and Mel were here for the weekend. Abby could barely contain herself until they got here. Then of course hse refused to look at or speak to Unple Dave for several hours. At least this time she didn't have to ask who he was like the last time he showed up sporting a beard.
So what do you get for the pre-schooler that has everything? Obviously it's a toy dog that poops. Unple Dave and Auntie Mel missed out on Abby's birthday this year so they arrived with a belated birthday present; Barbie with her pooping pooch Tanner. Abby could not get enough of this dog. You put food pellets into the dogs mouth, push down on the tail and watch the fecal hilarity ensue. Abby thought this was the greatest joke since the knock knock joke she had made up that afternoon. (Knock Knock. Who's there? Potato Head. Potato head who? Potato head didn't cross the road) She also very quickly found out if you shove 5 pieces of food in Tanners mouth at once well then 5 pieces will come out the other end all at once. I'm afraid all the forced feeding and subsequent forced pooping has caused Tanner to run away. He hasn't been spotted since late last night when Abby forced him to once again poop on the kitchen table in front of an audience. His dish full of food/poop pellets has sat untouched all day. I think tomorrow Abby wants to put up some missing posters around the neighbourhood.
So the reason for Dave and Mel making the long and arduous journey from the nothern part of the province was Mom's birthday. Abby had decided that Granny needed to have a birthday party. So little Miss Party Planner dictated a guest list to me and off we went. Friday Abby was playing in the backyard with ChaCha when she found the perfect gift for Granny's birthday. She raced into the house and found a tiny shoe box to hold her treasure. She kept it close by for the next 24 hours until it was time for the great unveiling. Apparetnly a dirty old bird feather is "the" gift to give this year. Keep it in mind for Christmas. Too bad Auntie Mel let Abby go first. It's hard to compete with "the best gift ever".
Well since I have 4 decorated cakes under my belt and that obviously makes me an expert I thought it was time to challenge myself. Branch out. Try something new. First, just for fun, Mel and I tried to pass off a store bought coffee cake as the birthday cake. Too bad a four year old stool pigeon ratted us out.
Here is the actual cake. Designed and decorated by me, myself and I. My first time using rolled fondant. I was quite happy with the results for my first attempt.
Happy birthday Mom!! Hope you enjoyed it.
