This year is a bit of a milestone birthday for Mike's Dad. I don't want to embarrass him by telling you the number, but I will say that we all really enjoyed his 50th birthday party a decade ago. Now Dad is a man and like most men he likes to think he has some say in what goes on in his life. So when his plans for a small quiet dinner with his siblings and their spouses was enlarged to include his very own children and grandchildren well he began to act
cranky in a way that reinforces certain negative stereotypes in regards to the older generation. Who knows what would have happened if he had known that Linda and I had planned for over 40 of his friends and family to join us. I'm sure his head would have exploded.
So for the sake of our own sanity we kept him on a need to know basis. And since he knew nothing he was a tad puzzled as friends started to drop in unexpectedly. It's always a great feeling to pull off a surprise party.
Yeah, you're right. He does look pretty happy for a cranky old guy who didn't want a party. All kidding aside, it was a great night.
With great food.
Great friends.
And some really cute kids.
Happy Birthday Papa! Hope you enjoyed yourself.
for those interested in that kind of thing there are more photos from the party up at flickr
