We're going to catch a big one
We're not scared
Yesterday Abby's class of twenty-something 4 year olds embarked on a bear hunt. Armed with only toilet paper roll binoculars and a bear hunt head band (see below) the class set out to find the most ferocious of all stuffed animals.... the teddy bear. Now I realize teddy bears aren't native to the public school environment so the teacher had bears shipped in. Yes, the kids each got to bring in a favourite bear from home for the purpose of the bear hunt. This may have been the greatest day of their public school careers thus far.
Our little gaggle of local j/k-ers all arrived at the bus stop yesterday morning with teddy in tow. Abby immediately took inventory, "Do you have your bear? Did you remember your bear?" because that's her job as the self appointed Queen of the bus stop. As the bus approached the littlest ones busied themselves with kissing their Moms, Dads and/or baby sisters good bye before dutifully lining up behind the bigger kids who are way past all that kissing parents good bye stuff. Abby was the first of the little kids in line. She looked the fifth grader in front of her up and down with a keen eye. Something was amiss.
"Hey!" she called to him. "Where's your bear?"
The boy had his back to me so I couldn't hear what he said to her, but he's a nice kid so I'm sure he simply told her he didn't have one.
"Well!" she said incredulously, "How are you going to go on a bear hunt?"
I gotta tell ya, I was laughing way too hard to pay attention to what his response was.
Here's Abby reciting the Hibernation poem they learned during their "Bear studies".

And with that we bid a fond farewell to NaBloPoMo! I think the blogosphere is going to be mighty quiet tomorrow.
