Maya's First Christmas Tree

So this is Maya's first Christmas. Last night Abby and I put up her first Christmas tree. As Abby worked at diligently loading all the ornaments onto one tree branch, Maya was at the other end of the house hanging out with her father. Blissfully unaware that something as mischief provoking as a decorated tree was a mere two rooms away.

On school days, our normal routine is to see Abby off on the school bus, maybe chat for a few moments with a neighbourhood Mom or Dad and then head back inside for some breakfast. Both of us consume our morning meal in the office. Me at my desk, Maya on the floor with her bottle and some toys that will hopefully keep her busy long enough for me to find out the latest on Hollywood's newest BFF's Paris and Britney get some very important work done.

Today for the first time she would have to share her space with Secondary Christmas tree. With all of it's tempting replicas of beloved Disney characters. Instantly intrigued Maya attempted to engage the tree in conversation by crawling right over and shouting "guh" at it repeatedly. When that failed to illicit an response she reached to grab a low lying ornament. "Maya! No!" I admonished firmly while signing the same to her. She sat back and smiled at me, the smile that says "hey I'm cute, you know it, I know it." Then she waited a moment while the cuteness sunk in and then she made a move again. "Maya! No!" Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Actually all told she lost interest after about half an hour or so and she never actually touched an ornament. We'll have to see if it lasts.
