What have you got to lose?

Word on the street is that this is De-lurking week.

Not sure what that is?

lurk: verb To exist unobserved or unsuspected.

Lurking is big in the blogosphere. I know I do my fair share of it. I read a lot of blogs, but I only comment on a small percentage of them.

The ones I don't comment on? They would be the blogging big shots. The internet rock stars. The ones that are on just about everyone's blogroll. That's not a shot at anybody in anyway. I mean I read Dooce too. She's definitely an incredible writer and deserves her success. I don't bother to comment because I doubt I'm adding anything to the discussion when I'm commenter number 88 or 146 or 212. Instead I lurk about soaking up their greatness and wonder for the millionth time why I even dared to imagine my writing was anything even slightly resembling witty, entertaining or interesting.

So where do I de-lurk and comment my head off? I like to leave my mark on blogs where I feel a connection with the writer. I recently reworked my blogroll, removing a lot of the links to those blogging superstars mentioned above. I did that for a couple of reasons, the first being none of those people need any traffic boosting help from me and secondly, I'm trying to keep my blogroll limited to blogs where I'm actually interested in participating. Places where I feel comfortable chiming in with my two cents. Commenting is not something I have done a lot of before, but I have been making a conscious effort to improve on that point.

Now I don't want to beg, but I will if it comes to that so spread some commenting love around this week.

Delurking to say Hi! Not sure how I found your blog but I enjoyed it so I added it to my bloglines!

I already delurked, but hi again! I agree, I never try to comment on the more "public" sites that I read. I like blogging for relationship-forming, not, oddly enough, for the "broadcasting-my-life-to-the-world" aspect.

Shan,

I LOVE de-lurking week. Thank you for being one of the people who comment on my blog the most. Even my family won't comment! I hope you have a Happy New Year!

Hi Kathy, thanks for visiting. I'm glad you found me too.

Sass, I feel the same way about it. Although I think a lot of bloggers harbour a secret fantasy that someone will find their site and say, "this is the most amazing thing I have ever read. Let's give her a book deal and a buttload of cash." Sounds nice, but in reality I'm happy just to have my little space here to amuse my friends and family and also have a family record to give my girls one day.

Hi Merry, I hope you are feeling well. I know what you mean about non-commenting family. My mom used to be my number one commenter, but she seems to have deserted me. Maybe she's off commenting on one of the more popular blogs.

I've lurked a bit here, so I'll officially delurk and come back soon. I know what you mean about the blogging rock-stars... it's hard to feel like your comment matters when 352 people have already said something!

Anyway, thanks for delurking on my blog, too!

I have to admit to being a lurker. I love reading your blogs but never reply.Keep writting, you are way more interesting than John Tesh.
