Tag, you're it.

You may have heard that I got myself tagged by the fabulous sognatrice over at bleeding espresso... A girl who loves a good meme as much as I do. Now I'm going to go ahead and do the adjusted meme, if I could only listen to seven songs for the rest of my life what would they be?

I took a day to think about this because I'm, very much, a love 'em and leave 'em kind of girl when it comes to music. I get hooked on a song and listen to it over and over and over until I am sick of it. Current case in point, Lips of an Angel by Hinder. Sure, now that you mention it I will listen to it again. This was also difficult because I'm not much of a musical person. In the sense that I know what I like and if that so happens to be a Nickelback song, well then so be it. In contrast my brother is a music snob. He might attempt to tell you that he's not, but he totally be lying. If it's been labeled popular or is on any kind of a chart then he's not interested.

I posed this question to Mike as well and the first song out of his mouth was Stairway to Heaven. Huh and what? Wow, you live with someone for over a decade and you think you know them. Turns out no. The odd part is, by his own admission, he's not a Led Zepplin fan at all. Maybe he misheard the question and thought I asked what song would you like to hear if you went to a seventh grade dance? Because there's no other circumstance in which that makes sense.

Anyway after much deliberation here are my seven, in no particular order.

1. Believe, Brooks and Dunn

I am a sucker for a slow song with a nice "story" and/or message. Especially one that speaks to my religious side.

"They tell me that there's more to life than just what I can see, I believe"

2. My Little Girl, Tim McGraw

It's well documented that I'm also a sucker for Tim McGraw. I picked this song for more than that though. What can I say I'm a sappy Mom and I can't help but think about my girls and also my Dad whenever I hear this one.

"Go on take on this old world, but to me you know you'll always be, my little girl."

3. The Killing of Georgie Part 1 & 2, Rod Stewart

This is pure nostalgia. Mom has always been a huge Rod Stewart fan and I love a lot of his music. I have no idea why, but this one has always been my number one.

"Youth's a mask, but it don't last, live it long and live it fast. Georgie was a friend of mine."

4. Photographs and Memories, Jim Croce

I'm pretty sure this was the first music I found on my own. We had an album (yes actual vinyl) in the house when I was in my early teens. I'm not sure why I picked it up it may have had something to do with the fact that the lyrics to the songs were printed on the cover.

"Photographs and memories, Christmas cards you sent to me. All that I have are these to remember you."

5. Love Will Turn You Around, Kenny Rogers

Another nostalgia pick. This was the theme song from the movie Six Pack starring Kenny Rogers. Whenever I hear it I'm right back at that summer of 1982.

"It's your heart that talks you into staying where you are, love will turn you around."

6. My Wish, Rascall Flatts

A song I could of written about my girls. Every single word.

"While you're out there getting where you're getting to, I hope you know somebody loves you and wants the same things too. Yes, this is my wish."

7. Wheat Kings, The Tragically Hip

Well I think they'd revoke my citizenship if I didn't list a Hip song. I've always had some interest in the David Millgard story. The guys did a beautiful job with this.

"Twenty years for nothing, well that's nothing new."

So there you have. The soundtrack for the rest of my life.

And now it's my turn to tag some people.... hmm how about Darlene, Delores, Dave and the whole Winterbeard posse if any of them are interested (and odds are they aren't) and Sass.

I knew you'd play! Although this was a tough one, I kind of liked remembering certain songs and what they represented to me--like you, I'm not a huge music freak, but certain songs do seem to stick out if you think hard enough.

Stairway to Heaven, huh? Another thought is that maybe Mike thought you said "a song that once you hit play, will literally last the rest of your life."

Delores - I had the same problem Mike's all about the music, me not so much. Can't wait to read yours.
