Picked Abby up at the sitter's today and she went into full out temper tantrum mode because she DID NOT WANT TO GO HOME!! I know I should be thrilled that she feels so at home at the sitter's and I do, but it's really more than I care to deal with at the end of the work day. So when the tantrum showed no signs of ending any time in the foreseeable future I scooped her up in my arms and carried her out to the van. And guess what happened next? If you guessed she screamed "I don't want to go home" the *entire* way home, well then you win. So I'm sure you can appreciate I was in no way in the mood for what happened next.
Approaching our driveway I see my neighbour out at the side of the road waving her arms and gesturing for me to roll down my window. "Hey!" she called, "we have a new bus stop and a new bus starting tomorrow."
Huh? And also, what!?
As it turns out, staring tomorrow morning Abby (and the rest of the kids on our street) have been moved onto another bus. Instead of catching the bus around the corner she'll instead be getting on an entirely different bus across the street about 15 minutes earlier than she used to. Abby did not have school today so the new busing information was given to my neighbour to pass on to us. Did I mention this starts tomorrow. It may not sound like a big deal, but it is. A huge deal. You see the bus Abby was on stops at both our house and the sitter's house. She could get on or off at either place with no problems. Her new bus does not stop at the sitter's. The sitter's stop remains with the old bus. Technically Abby is no longer allowed to ride her old bus which means she cannot get on or off the bus at the sitters house. See, huge problem.
We were advised to call the bus company and explain the problem and have Abby switched back to her old bus. The lady Mike spoke to had this extremely helpful advice, "she can't ride her old bus. You have to fix it through the school. You have a week to get it straightened out." Umm yeah, thanks so much. At this point I was livid. Livid! In who's mind does 16 hours notice for a major change such as this seem fair?
As it happens Grandma Sandi is here tomorrow and will be able to put Abby on her new bus. After that though we're screwed. She has to get an okay to return to her old bus before Friday. Mike and I tried to work out a way for Abby to take this new bus, but it simply does not work for us. While the issue wouldn't be meeting the bus at home, it's the fact that we have no way of getting her on the bus in the morning. Now we're stuck with additional dilemma of what to do when Grandma Sandi is here. We will either have to take Abby with us when we go to work and drop her off at the sitters, Grandma Sandi will have to drive to the sitter's bus stop or just drive her to school. So much to reorganize with only 16 hours notice. Which is just horse shit. Have I mentioned that yet? Because it is. Horse shit. Yeah, I'm still mad about it. As Mike pointed out, not everybody has a work hours that don't start until 9 am. It's Michael's job to put in a call to the principal tomorrow and politely point that out to him and to strongly suggest that he authorize Abby's return to her old bus ASAP. Yep, still mad.
