Now I've gotten dangerously off topic which was Uncle Dave and Aunt Mel came to visit! They arrived Friday and stayed over night, which wasn't long enough for Abby (or me, but it's cuter when she begs them to stay longer). Despite being a short visit we did manage to cram in a lot of stuff. We watched a movie with Abby, ate some nachos, went shopping, stuffed ourselves with barbecued foods of all descriptions, had an early birthday celebration with Mel, admired their new tent and chuckled while they swam in our (76 degrees) pool. Okay that last one was just Mike and I. Suckers, couldn't say no to a 5 year old.
I have mentioned before that despite the geographical distance Abby has a very close relationship with her Uncle Dave and Auntie Mel. Never before has that been more evident than this visit. Mike already had plans to go out Friday night, so I had promised Abby we could have family movie night. As luck would have it Uncle Dave and Aunt Mel showed up just in time to join us in our viewing of Over The Hedge. As the movie started Abby positioned herself on the couch between UD and AM. Mel had already changed into her jammies.
Abby looked her up and down, "Aunt Mel, are those your pyjamas?"
When Abby heard that they were she scrambled down off the couch and disappeared upstairs, only to return a few moments later and her own jammies. Ones that came as close as she could get to matching Mel's, but she did point out to us that she couldn't find the matching bunny shirt and had to make to with a top from another set. We settled in again to watch the movie, when something else caught Abby's eye and off she scampered. This time coming back with her sunglasses because both UD and AM wear glasses.
It's hard to tell, but Abby's jammie bottoms are striped "just like" Auntie Mel's.
As always their visit wasn't long enough, but we were so happy they came. Abby slept through their departure which only put off the crying for a couple of hours when she woke up and realized they were gone. Luckily I managed to somewhat distract her with a visit from Papa and Grandma Linda. It almost worked, but not quite. Poor Abby.
