he didn't ask me to

Did you know that Mike never asked me to marry him? Despite the fact that today we are celebrating 11 years of wedded bliss, the big question was never popped. There was no bended knee. And yet here we are, so how exactly did that happen?

Well Mike was never going to be the surprise with with an engagement ring kind of guy. And I knew that because he told me he wouldn't. So one day out shopping with Robin we happened into a jewelry store. Robin actually needed to go in for a reason that escapes me now and while I perused the showcases one ring jumped out at me. It caught my attention because it was a unique setting. Actually the setting didn't make any sense at all until I realized it was half of a set. Two rings fit together to look like one ring. Oh I loved it.

I went home and told Michael I loved it. We went back and bought it the next day. And just like that we were engaged. It's not a very exciting story, hell it's not even an interesting story. I often wonder if I shouldn't make something up like a pregnant Rachel did in that one episode of Friends when she and Ross pretended they'd gotten married. But then I think maybe the story is ... there is no story. I'd say it was a story about nothing, but I think that's been done before.

I mention this story to illustrate that our underwhelming laid back attitude hasn't changed in the last decade plus one. Tonight we exchanged no cards and had a quiet meal with the girls. Well as quiet as you can get with the two of them. Oh it's not very quiet by the way. After dinner we went out for ice cream despite the cool weather we're experiencing. Eleven years ago today it was hot. So very very hot I can't even begin to tell you. Not the day to be wearing a 113 pound dress. Or a black tuxedo I guess.

Mike: Man I wish this had been the temperature the day we got married!
Me: (after hearing this for the 18 th time tonight) Dude, it was 11 years ago. You've got to let it go.

While enjoying our DQ in the van to avoid hypothermia Abby requested a taste of my KitKat blizzard (she had ordered a small chocolate sundae).

Abby: Hey! Your ice cream has chocolate bars in it.

There is a pause while she ponders this turn of events.

Abby: Do you want to trade?

Aww, but did I trade? What do you think? We are talking Kit Kats here people.

Happy Anniversary Baby! Hope the next 11 are just as incredible!

hey why not check out some wedding pictures here. you know you wanna!

Happy Anniversary! Hope you had a great day!

You think you are laid back, we were never really engaged, after two kids it was a given, then we just decided to make it "legal" as hubby says. We went to our friend, who happened to be a minister and got married in his reading room, in our jeans!! OUr honeymoon, pretty much trick or treating since we got married on halloween.

Happy Anniversary! Loved the pictures.

My husband did surprise me with a ring, but the proposal wasn't a "storybook" one. He was so nervous he asked me "would I be his next wife?" I asked who was the first? We laughed - I kissed him and then immediately called my mom. He went a drank a beer.
