three doors down

Today was one of those it takes a village to raise a child days. Mike was gone all day today between rentals and volunteering at the fair. So I was on my own with the girls. Now just to complicate things just a little bit, Abby had been invited to the fourth birthday party of her public school career. The party was for a little girl in her class who lives right around the corner from us. We accepted the invitation on Abby's behalf and then I began to scramble trying to figure out how I was going to get her there.

You see, the party started at 1 pm, which is all well and good except Maya's nap starts at 12 pm. Given that the party may as well have been on the moon. I couldn't delay Maya's nap because that would be asking for serious trouble. I couldn't leave her there while I walked Abby over. I certainly couldn't let Abby walk there by herself. Although if I was forced to choose between the two I would totally let Abby take herself to the party before I ever left Maya on her own. Goodness only knows what she'd get into.

This seemed like such a ridiculous problem and the solution to it didn't change my opinion at all. Grandma Linda to the rescue. I can't tell you how thankful I was that she was willing and able to come over and get Abby to the party three houses over. It just sounds a little silly doesn't it? Having a "sitter" come over to walk your kid around the corner.I even had my Mom checking in making sure Maya would be awake from her nap in time to pick Abby up from all the birthday fun. So today I'm grateful for my little village that is helping me raise my girls. Thanks guys!
