Currently my stack of books to read is hovering around the 50 mark. This excites me. I don't think the stack has ever been this large in my life time, but hey if Chapters is going to offer up a clearance section, well I'm going to take advantage of it. As much as I love losing myself in a really great book I also enjoy the selection of a new book. I pick up several, turn them over in my hands, scrutinize the cover, read the back cover, thumb through the pages until one of them speaks to me. I just love to read.
So you have to know that Abby learning how to read is a big deal for me. She's already shown a love for books and reading that thrills me to no end. I cannot wait to share with her the books I loved as a child. Books like the Wizard of Oz, the Little House series, the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary, the Amelia Bedelia books, and of course my beloved Judy Blume books. I remember the endless hours I spent as a girl curled up with these books. Total opposite of my brother who would rather being playing baseball, football, rugby, riding his bike or literally anything else but reading a book. Of course now he reads a lot. Usually big weighty books on things like theology and pop culture although I do have to thank him for introducing me to Douglas Coupland.
So what were your favourite books as a kid? Or, what are you reading now you can't put down?

Right now I'm reading a classic that I've been meaning to read for a long time--"A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith. I'm loving it!
And lucky you with a clearance section and a resulting huge stack o' books :)
Right now I'm reading "Chardonay is not for Sippy Cups". It's a humour book about motherhood. Before Evan, I could plow through 4 or 5 books a month. I have slowed WAY, WAY down since his arrival. I have no time to read (what with crafts & TV standing in my way). :) I hope Evan turns into a reader. I've really tried with Will & Nicole but there's only so much you can do when you only see them every other weekend. I loved reading as a child (and now) and I wish that I could get them to see how awesome it is. Oh well.
