friday flashback - modern day crazy carpets

Do you remember crazy carpets? When I was a kid everyone I knew had crazy carpets and GT SnoRacers, but that was usually just the boys. Back in the day I thought crazy carpets were the bomb. Sure they were a pain in the ass to get unrolled and then to get them to stay kind of unrolled so you could get on them was damn near impossible, but if you managed to figure all that out the ride down the hill was awesome. Of course then you'd have to get off the damn thing, it would roll back up and after that long walk all the way back up the hill you'd have to wrestle with it all over again.

I have actually been thinking about the orange piece of rolled up plastic that was a crazy carpet a lot this past week. Well ever since Mike came home with a new "snowboard" for Abby. She's deemed it a snowboard, but it's really a sled or toboggan if you will. Which Mike scored for a sweet $5, proving yet again it always pays to check out the clearance rack. Abby has never owned a toboggan of her own before, beyond that wooden baby sled with the fuzzy red seat that we've all either sat in ourselves or strapped our little ones into and very often we've done both. To be honest she's never expressed any real interest in one before so we've never thought to buy her one. Then this endless winter hit and with it found Abby attempting to slide down the hill with a length of two by six and a cardboard box. So Michael came home with this...

Who knew there had been such advances in toboggan technology? This "snowboard" is as light as a feather meaning Abby can easily bring it back up the hill herself. There are easy to grip handles for both the ride down and the walk back up. The snow contact side has a slippery plastic coating on it that ensures speedy rides down the hill. It is everything the crazy carpet had hoped to be.

There is one section along our property line that slopes down into our neighbour's yard. It's a "hill" that's just big enough for Miss Abby to tackle all on her own. Actually it's enough hill for Michael too. The other day found him reliving his childhood by taking a couple of passes down the hill himself. And by a couple of passes I mean he was still "snowboarding" long after Abby come in the house. I'm sure you're all as disappointed as I am that I didn't manage to get any of it on camera. Don't worry since we're at the beginning of an apparent ice age I am confident the opportunity will arise again.

I think I vaaaaaaaguely remember those rolled-up plastic things. We never got a whole lot of snow in VA though, so most of our sledding was done on summer grass on a piece of cardboard.

Cute picture and it looks like so much fun!! We are at the lake - 90 degrees today, but I'd give almost anything to be skiing somewhere in the snow!!

Have a good weekend Shan - thanks for the prayers for our baby! Kellan

It sounds like fun, but I am ready for warm weather so you can keep the snow.
Smiles!

gerbil - I can honestly say I have never done that.

Kellan - We could switch for the weekend. What do you think, do we have a deal?

Angela - hey I'm ready for spring too, someone else can keep the snow.
