i wanna know - how do you fight a cold?

Mike and I are both suffering from colds. Mike seems to have it worse than I do which should make for a fun weekend. I guess the worse part, really, for me is the exhaustion. I'm just so stinking tired. Every night this week I've been to bed hours before my regularly scheduled bedtime.

Now I may be late to the party on this one, but I only recently (I'm talking as recently as this week) discovered vick's Vapo-rub. I have been dipping myself in it nightly and it's been doing wonders for making me comfortable enough to get some much needed sleep. I have no idea why I haven't been using this my entire life, but I blame my mother. (love you mommy xoxox) But seriously I big red puffy heart Vick's Vapo-rub. And green tea. I've ingested many many mugs of green tea... and a few white as well.

So what I wanna know is......

Now that cold and flu season is upon us, what remedy to you swear by?

Sorry to hear that you have a cold. Both kids have had ones in the past couple of weeks. I used Watkins Medicated Ointment, basically the same as Vicks but with a bit more kick.
Have you seen the latest Canadian Living, big articles about fighting a cold in it. The one I use the most is Orange juice, and tea.

Hope you feel better soon.

Oh - I still remember being slathered with Vicks as a kid! (I even use baby vicks for my son). I recently heard that you should put some on the soles of your feet, and then socks before you go to bed. Who knows?

Also, I eat those nasty zinc lozenges.

I become a *huge* gargler (is that a word?) at the first inkling of a cold. I read that a lot of the cold bugs are lurking in the back of your throat at the very beginning so if you use an anti-bacterial mouthwash to gargle with you can lesson the severity of the oncoming cold. Ever since reading that I've done it, and it really seems to work. I have very minor colds vs. the full-blown ones I used to get.

Mom - hahaha that's so funny. It does help a lot. Helped Maya sleep through her last cold too. She still asks for "cream on tummy" at bedtime.

Sam - I had that issue here, but hadn't read that article yet. I did read it this afternoon though. I've been drinking a lot of OJ and tea today and I am feeling better.

Cristan - I hadn't heard about the soles of your feet.

Normie - my Mom is all about the salt water gargle. This one wasn't too bad really. I was just so tired, that was the biggest pain in the ass.

I like vicks if the cold is already in full swing. But our trusted and true remedy as soon as we feel a cold coming on is Cold FX. 9 times out of 10 it kicks that sucker before it develops. It really works. They don't pay me to say that by the way.
