i wanna know - what didn't you get for christmas?

It's that time of year isn't it? If we haven't already started Christmas shopping, we're certainly thinking about it. As I was flipping through The Sears Wish Book (a Christmas standard) I couldn't help, but remember being hunched over it as a child carefully making a list of the toys I wanted Santa to bring me.

I remember wanting a Connect 4 game, but I never got one. My best friend in grade school had one and I thought it was the best thing ever. I wanted one of my own very badly, but every year Santa shot me down. I'm sure we all have a similar story to that so.....

What I wanna know is.....

What did you really want for Christmas when you were a kid, but never got?

I never got a Comodore 64. I had to settle for Pong. How sad.

- Smash up Derby
- a race car set
- a Barbie camper
- a little brother

I always wanted a Light Bright (however that's spelled), and never got one, though I'm not sure it was ever specifically requested for Christmas. My parents were very frugal for 99% of the year, but we generally got spoiled rotten on Christmas day.

My mom still tells the story, though, of when she was a little girl, and she DESPERATELY wanted a particular doll, and talked about it allllll the time. Told anyone who would listen about this doll she wanted. Her younger sister got it for Christmas instead. Can you imagine?

Umm, I honestly can't remember wanting anything and being disappointed that I didn't get it. Probably because I was pretty easy to please and was happy with whatever I got. I didn't care as long as it was new and involved the color pink.

I never got my Barbie's Dream House or whatever it was called back then. Much to my chagrin, my mom bought me the newest thing "The Waltons" house. UGH!!!

Let's see...Barbie Dream House, pink and gray Huffy bike, Easy Bake Oven, Atari, but I did get lots of great stuff, and I certainly didn't dwell on these (and to be fair to my parents/grandparents, I don't think I ever actually *told* them I wanted any of these things). I usually got imitations anyway, and they were just as good :)

Betsy - I did have one of those. I should dig up the picture from the year I got it.

Julie - the commodore 64, our first computer. We never did have pong, but my cousins had a table version.

Andrea - well I had the Easy Bake oven and the smash up derby cars (at my Grandmas) and a little brother. I never did get the Barbie camper though.

Leah - how did I forget about Light Brite? And that story about your poor mom. Funny family history now I'm sure, but boy I bet it stunk at the time.

Valarie - Really overall I have little to complain about. And pink was good with me back then too.

Suze - Abby got one last Christmas... wanna come play? I'll make cookies:)

Michelle - To be fair I don't think I ever told my Mom about Connect Four either. It's not in her nature to ignore a request like that.
