counting down the 25 days

So the twenty-five days of Christmas rolls on. Abby is beyond excited to check the basket everyday to see if Elwood has left a note. To be honest the past few days have been a bit of a struggle. I'm doing that thing I always do and am over extending myself. Meaning most of the time I'm operating on less sleep than I should be getting. It's hard to be at my creative best in such circumstances.

Tonight Elwood instructed us to draw pictures of Santa, which Abby declared boring. So she drew a picture of Rudolph instead. I assured her Elwood wouldn't mind. Things were better over the weekend; we watched Charlie Brown Christmas, which I actually purchased on dvd for the occasion. Apparently a sweet story about the true meaning of Christmas is boring. Which kind of surprised me when she said it. I mean who doesn't love Charlie Brown Christmas? Abby, that's who.

The Christmas themed charades were a huge hit though. To eliminate reading from the game we each just picked something related to Christmas to act out. My favourite was Abby's "Angel with her crew". And most of the time she guessed right before either Mike or I when we were have our respective turns. I'll have to keep charades in mind for family game night.

In the upcoming days I plan on making snowman pancakes. An idea I "borrowed" from someone's blog, but now can't remember whose. And I think Elwood will have Abby give me a hand wrapping some presents. I'd like to squeeze in a screening of the Polar Express at some point as well. Then there's gingerbread night. And that's only 4 nights. I'm going to have to start working on the rest.

Are you doing the 25 days of Christmas?

Yeah, we are, as you know. It's going pretty well except that some of the things I've put in the calendar are weather dependent or I forgot I had it in there and we went and did it already etc etc. But the girls (esp Emily) are excited every morning to see what our activity is.

have you frosted sugar cookies? made a paper chain? written a letter to Santa? make cookies to surprise a neighbor/friend/teacher with? sang a favorite christmas carol together? made holiday themed platemats (construction paper, stamps, cut-outs, etc) and/or napkin holders (tp tubes cut down and wrapped in foil, with cut out shapes glued on top)? pick out a toy from the store to donate for Toys for Tots (do you guys have Toys for Tots in Canada?)

That's all I can come up with at the moment. Hopefully one of them is helpful to you!

I lvoe this idea... I hope I remember it for next year

Karen - there's a bit of a learning curve isn't there. So far things have been a lot of fun.

Leah - all great ideas Leah, thanks. And you could always do the 12 days of Christmas. We have written our letters to Santa. And last Sunday was the Sunday the congregation brought in it's toy donations. We partner with an agency downtown that we help out year round.
