what's cooking wednesday - royal icing paint

Yeah, it's frosting again this week. What can I tell you I'm just having so much fun playing around with all this stuff. I was whipping up some cookies for a friend's birthday and I was intrigued by the recipe - Royal Icing Paint. Sounded like fun.

Royal Icing Paint

Royal Icing Paint

1/2 cup water
1/4 cup meringue powder
4 1/2 cups icing sugar

In a large bowl, beat water with meringue powder until foamy - about 2 minutes. Beat in sugar until stiff - about 9 minutes.

Recipe Notes - This makes a fair bit of icing, so I divided it into four bowls and added food colouring. You could tint it all one color or leave it white. Also, I put about a tsp or so of lemon extract in with the water to boost the lemon flavour of the cookies. I really loved this icing. It's great for outline work and doodling on cookies. It's a very light icing that stays were you put it when you pipe it on a cookie. I ended up putting the four colours into 4 disposable piping bags and just snipping the ends off. The girls had a blast decorating their own cookies...

What is What's Cooking Wednesday and how can I play?

What's cooking Wednesday was born out of a desire to get out of that what's for dinner rut. Playing is easy, on Wednesday post a recipe that has been tried and tested by you and then pop over here and add your name to the Mr. Linky. When entering your name also add the name of the recipe in brackets and make sure you link to your What's Cooking Wednesday post and not just your blog's front page. *All front page links will be deleted!* Don't make me be a jerk. And don't forget to link back here, the home of What's Cooking Wednesday.

So for example I would write Shan (Speedy Chicken Stir Fry) in the name section. For the URL section I would post this: http://shanrev.blogspot.com/2007/10/whats-cooking-wednesday-speedy-chicken.html

I'll let you in on a little secret, my WCW recipes are almost never made on a Wednesday. So feel free to cook and photograph whenever you have time and join us posting on Wednesday

Shan, this is such fun! My family is pretty much beyond this stage, but... maybe when we make Christmas cookies this year. C doesn't like to admit it, but the temptation of playing with frosting is still very much there!
