fabulous family fun

My thumb hurts, y'all. Hanging endless pieces of art work on bulletin boards will do that to ya I guess. Yep, that's how I spent my evening yesterday. And for why? It's almost fair time folks.

It's a lot of work, but I love what I get to do at the fair. And what exactly do I get to do? I deal directly with art and school work made by kids from kindergarten to grade eight. I'm not going to lie it is a lot of grunt work to put it all together. The work that comes in needs to be sorted, judged, recorded, organized and then displayed. And we do two rounds of this. The first round (that I'm dealing with right now) is stuff that is submitted by the teachers and a huge thank you to the teachers out there that support us. Round two, which is due to arrive in mid September, is stuff the kids can put together themselves at home.

Why do I love it so much? Well once all the grunt work is done and we throw the doors open for fair weekend an endless parade of kids come through and they are all so excited to find their work and, more importantly, their ribbons. It's something I honestly never get tired of.

I would encourage my local peeps with kids to take advantage of this opportunity. You can check out the prize book online. It's free to enter and the kids win ribbons and cash. My girls have both been entering since they've been old enough and it's such a rewarding experience for them. I won't lie I get just as excited waiting to see what ribbons the girls are going to get on their projects. So really, it's fun for the whole family.
