34/52 - Penguin Town

Penguin Town (2021) - One of my daughters really loves an animal documentary, especially a cute one, so of course Penguin Town was going to fit the bill. This one is a docu-series, 8 episodes in length, that tells the story of endangered African penguins who come ashore in Simon's Town, South Africa for the purpose of mating.

Patton Oswalt narrates and does a super fun job with it. The graphics and music are a trip and the fun nicknames (The Courtyards, The Culverts) given the penguin couples are cute, but it's also helpful for keeping all these look-a-like penguins straight. Some of these penguins are long time monogamous companions and some are out there looking for love, so it really gives you the full mating season experience and despite being on the cutesy side it doesn't shy away from the realities of wild and endangered animals coming ashore to live among the humans and other predators. It was educational and adorable. Win win!

We watched this on Netflix.
