you capture - flowers

So You Capture this week was flowers, babies or trees. Can you believe I spent two evening with my pal TC's beautiful new baby and only snapped one grainy cell phone picture of her? Actually to be honest, Maya snapped it. I was too busy cuddling that little girl up. Gosh she is sweet. So I do apologize for the lack of baby pictures... because really.... who doesn't love looking at sweet baby pictures? Instead I give you flower pictures, from ML's garden.

you capture - patriotism

Photobucket

Well I am going to attempt to get back on the You Capture band wagon. I used to take sooooo many pictures and now I rarely find the time to actually pick up my camera. Largely I think I got out of practice because my rechargeable batteries decided they had been recharged enough and I'd be lucky to get a picture or two out of them before they were dead again.

So this week was patriotism... which was fun and easy considering we just celebrated Canada Day.

With fireworks!

you capture - fun

This post got bumped in favour of our wonderful news post... good thing to get bumped for I think. I have been wanting to get back into the you capture. I haven't been taking all that many pictures these days... shocking for me, but there has been so much other stuff to do, something had to give. I just feel bad that it just so happens to be something I love. So I'm aiming to pick it up more often. To be fair I snap a lot of photos with my phone... crappy ones mostly, but the odd one turns out good here and there.

Monday night it was raining here in the village so Mike asked if we wanted to be dropped off at church for choir practice while he was on his way to his meeting. Our church is right around the corner from our house, it's less than a five minute walk. Which do you think the kids would have prefered? A ride. Or a less than 5 minute walk in the rain with umbrellas that they could maybe stretch into a 10 minute walk in the rain with umbrellas?

Photobucket

I'm going to try and get back on the you capture track. It's such a fun project. This week's prompt was to post your top ten pictures from the last year. In no particular order mine are....

you capture - halloween

Photobucket

So I think we should probably get this Halloween thing all wrapped up and You Capture this week was Halloween too. Perfect! On top of the swinging disco party I attended we also hooked up with some friends and their kids at a Halloween party/Haunted house at our church.

The kids had a blast with the Mummy contest (that's Abby all wrapped up beside the girl in the red costume), bobbing for apples, scavenger hunt and the main event.... the haunted house. Maya refused to go downstairs and Abby declared it soooo not scary, but we took a tour when the kids were done and we were all pretty impressed with the skeletons, bloody foot prints, dismembered body parts and the Mummy they had down there.

The main event of course was the trick or treating. Abby went as a rock star, originally she was a rock star vampire, but after 3 parties with all the black, the cape and the fake teeth she was ready to lighten things up a bit. So we threw together her funkiest outfit, sprayed some silver and red glitter in her hair, popped our sykping headset on her head and she thought she was Taylor Swift. Maya went as a witch, but without the hat because it kept sliding off her little head. Also she needed everyone to know she was a good witch!

This was the first year we've decorated beyond carving pumpkins. I hope to expand our display for next year.... I know right, who is this person.

For pumpkins this year I went with guy who lost an eye and....

Yoda! I hesitate to give away my pumpkin carving secrets, but Zombie Pumpkins has the best pumpkin stencils, hands down! They have some freebies, but you do have to pay to access the rest of the site and it is well worth every penny if you like having the best looking pumpkins on the street. And I do.

This year we also did some Halloween crafts with the kids, making lanterns out of glass jars. We took some glass jars once they were empty of their salsa, pickles and/or spaghetti sauce and painted some up to look like Frankenstein and some to look like pumpkins. Super cute, super easy and super cheap.

All in all a pretty great Halloween. How was yours?

you capture - faces

Photobucket

You Capture this week was all about faces. Abby's riding lessons have started again.... aside... I wish you guys could see her on that horse. She's pretty good. It's impressive to watch... end aside... so I grabbed my camera and off to the stable I went looking for faces. And I found lots.

you capture - kitchen

I've spent a lot of time in the kitchen the past couple of weeks. On top of the everyday cooking required of a family of four. I've also made two birthday cakes, 2 sets of birthday cupcakes, some cookies and some granola bars. So the You Capture prompt of kitchen was very timely!
