Abby's birthday has come and gone, although every time she sees the Dora figure balloon my mom got her she still asks me if it's her birthday. Some how we ended up with 25 people here for her party after swearing to each other that her birthdays would be small low key affairs. Of course for a kid with no fewer than 8 grandparents that's a little difficult to manage. It was a beautiful day, a bit cloudy, but still nice. The kids all had a great time in the bouncer. My Mom made three goregous Dora birthday cakes. They were too pretty to cut up.
Uncle Dave, Aunt Mel and Adelaide the dog made the trip down from the Pete for the festivities. Abby was so keyed up that they were there that she refused to nap before her party. She stayed in pretty good spirits until we tried to get her to open presents. Well actually, sneaky thing she is, she started to open one on her own and I figured what the hell may as well let her open them all. She unwraps one and takes off for the bouncer. I had to get Courtney to go in after her and pull her out by the leg. Now she's screaming at me because she doesn't want to get out. In the end I shut the bouncer off, which started a whole new bout of screaming. Finally after some help from Papa and I we got her gifts open. I guess I should be happy I'm raising a child who isn't interested in material things. She also refused to blow out her candles, insisting it was Justin's turn. So Justin being the gentleman he is, did the honours. After that we turned the bouncer back on and everything was back to normal.
Poor Abby is a walking buffet for mesquitos. Right now she's got about a dozen nasty bumps on her. Which of course she won't stop scratching so now she's covered in bloody sores. She looks like an escapee from the leper colony. Papa to the rescue with a bottle of Bactine which we've been coating them with and they have improved greatly. Abby keeps picking at the scabs, telling me her pa-key-toe bites have come off. Just getting her ready to go outside now is a massive undertaking. First there's the coating her with sunscreen. I'm really thinking of getting a paint tray and a roller, that should speed things up. Then I have to douse her with bug spray because those little buggers go after my baby girl 24/7. She was outside in her pool today at 1 pm and before I got her sprayed she had two bites on her forehead. I'm seriously considering putting her in a bubble for the summer.
In the midst of Abby's birthday weekend and the ensuing chaos we had to pick up our new van. We're still in the honeymoon stage or I guess I should say Mike is. Abby's not allowed to eat in the van, with the exception of fruit treats because they aren't messy. He gets rid of any and all garbage that finds it's way in there with us, empty coffee cups, water bottles etc. I swear he spends 30 minutes a day straightening and adjusting seatbelts. After we got the van home, Mike noticed one of teh organization inserts was missing so he called the dealership back and they sent a replacement one to us with a friend of Mike's who, on Mike's recommendation, went out there and bought herself a new vehicle. I just can't say enough about their customer service.
Seen any good movies lately? We watched Open Water with Dave and Mel. What a tense movie that was. It's an independent flick about two divers that accidentally get left behind in shark infested waters after a dive. There was a couple of times that Mel actually shrieked out loud. I highly recommend it. This weekend I watched Finder's Fee. A movie written and directed by Jeff Probst of Survivor fame. I had heard a lot of good things about his movie and I wasn't disappointed. It's the story of a guy who finds a wallet with a winning lottery ticket in it. Today we watched Spiderman 2. Mike's not a fan of super heroes, Tobey Maguire or comic book movies, but he loves the Spiderman series. It's great to see a sequel as good as the first. Nothing about the movie dragged at all. I was surprised how quickly two hours went by. Can't wait to see the third installment.
Latest from the Abby concert series: I Wanna Talk About Me by Toby Keith.
Heard from Abby as she laid on my lap looking up at me.... "Mommy you got boogers up there."
Abby got Pooh's Heffalump movie for her birthday and has watched 452 times since then!
