The Big Move

Well it's official, Abby has spent her very first night in her new "big girl room". It's not exactly finished, but close enough. Mike still has to put up the window and door trim. He'd also like to get a new bedroom door as the door that's on there now is an original door and well it's seen better days. Plus it's pretty noisy, not great for sneaking in to check on sleeping kids. Although I managed to last night without waking her up. To check out more pictures of Abby's room click on the picture to the left.

Abby's new room was really a collaborate effort. I picked the colours, going with two shades of purple because I like purple for little girls but also we were planning a Dora theme and the colours I picked are close to the colour of Backpack. Mike and I tried to find a Dora border that we liked. Mike wanted one of the new styles that's just a giant removable sticker. Of course I didn't like any of the ones in that style. At Wal Mart one afternoon Abby picked out the horse border we ended up using all by herself. Not exactly Dora, but the colours worked so that was great. Grandma Sandi had bought Dora wall stickers for her new room ages ago so we used those over her bed and dresser.

Mike picked out and installed the laminate floor in her room. When we were decorating Abby's nursery a wise man asked me if I was sure I wanted to put carpet down in there. Well of course I did, what was wrong with him? In three and a half years I have spent more nights trying to clean vomit out of carpet than I care to think about. Of course this is usually a task that needs to be done at around 3 am. I only had to do that a handful of times before I realized how smart it would have been to have had anything but carpet. Should have listened to Eddie. So this time I insisted on laminate (which we got a great deal on btw) even though it's been a very long time since Abby's made a real mess on the carpet in her room.

Abby spent the night before at a sleepover at Grandma Sandi's. So before she left I asked if it was okay if Mommy and Daddy moved her bed into her new room. She thought it was a great idea. When she got home yesterday afternoon she couldn't wait to go upstairs and check it out. She had to check out every little detail. Since I had her bedding in the wash she had to go downstairs and get her "living room" pillow and blanket to make her bed with. Just so it looked finished. She even went back to her old room and picked up all the toys, socks, books and sippy cups of water that had been lost under her bed. When she had the floor clear she turned to us and siad, "there you go, the baby can sleep and cry in here." Good at least she's prepared for the crying.

Mike has a little list of jobs he needs to finish in Abby's room. I think he's going to try and get the crib rebuilt this weekend too. Then we can get all the baby gear into the nursery and out of our bedroom. He's getting a little panicked because I'm 35 weeks and I had Abby at 37 weeks and we were in no way prepared for her.

In other news, Mike has a new obsession. A little show called Dancing With the Stars. We never watched the first season, but the other night I stopped on the latest edition for a moment and Mike was hooked. He's vowing to watch the entire series. He even watched the results show last night. I have to say even I was impressed with Drew Lachey. Nice to see Nick out in the audience cheering his brother on. I'm sure the Lachey brothers weren't the big draw for Michael though. It may have had something to do with the skimpy midrif bearing costumes the ladies were wearing. That's just speculation on my part though.

I am in love with my dryer balls. What the hell are dryer balls I can hear you all saying. Well I got them for Christmas from Dad and Linda and I have to be honest I was extremely skeptical about them in the beginning. You see they are just to blue plastic balls covered in soft spikes. They're a bit smaller than a tennis ball and are supposed to replace dryer sheets when drying your laundry. They claim to be easier on your clothes, create less lint, promise quicker dryer times and most importantly no static cling. Shortly after Christmas I threw the two balls in the dryer with a load of clothes and waited to check out the results. I thought they'd be very noisy bouncing around in the dryer, but after a second or two they seem to work their way into the middle of the load and you don't hear from them again. At the end of the load the clothes came out exactly as they would have if I had used a dryer sheet. No static cling at all. I haven't really noticed a decrease in lint production or if it really shortens our drying time by much, but our dryer sheet budget has become non-exsistent. Not to mention it's much more environmentally friendly. It's definitley a worth while purchase.
