Well it appears that the guilt I was feeling about sending Abby to the sitter's today was a total waste of time. I awoke this morning to Abby knocking on her bedroom door and Maya wailing from behind her bedroom door. I'm sure one woke the other one up, but I'm not sure who was up first. Abby's door is across from us and Maya's is down the hall, so I rescued Abby first. No sooner was her door open when she said, "Daddy said I could go to Lyn's today. He did! He said it!" Okay easy there tiger. How about we get out of our PJ's first, maybe have some breakfast, maybe I could make your lunch to take with you. And perhaps you'd allow me to see to your sister's needs as well. Since Mike's hurt himself at work and has been home the last two days he did the middle of the night shift with Maya. So I let him sleep while I dealt with the girls this morning.
So off she went, happily I might, add to spend the day with Lyn and the kids. Maya and Mike both had doctor's appointments late this afternoon so Papa and Grandma Linda got Abby from Lyn's and kept her for dinner. Mike's dad dropped her off just after 7 and she was excited to be home. She was even more excited, though, to tell us about her day. What kids were there today, what she did at Papa and Grandma's, which movies she watched, how she didn't want to eat fish for dinner at Papa's and so on. Maya was still napping when she got home, so I could give Abby my undivided attention. We both got in our PJ's and snuggled in our bed watching cartoons. I think she enjoyed the just her and I time, I know I did.
As for my day of rest, well I got an awful lot done. Not much resting to speak of. I have been trying to systematically declutter our closets and sift through the baby things that were left from Abby. Since I've been off work I have managed to clean out the office closet and storage cupboard and Abby's toy room. My next and biggest project is our bedroom. Before I was pregnant with Maya our empty spare room was our dumping ground. Some of it was baby stuff (crib, high chair etc), but a lot of it was crap we just didn't need. Once we were expecting Maya we needed to make the spare room in a room for Abby. So all the stuff in the spare room was transferred to our room and that's pretty much where's it's stayed.
My plan has been to tackle it bit by bit. So while Maya napped this morning I went through our linens and ended up with 3 garbage bags for Goodwill. For some reason we still had bedding for a double sized bed. We haven't had a double bed in our house for a while now. Our bed is a queen and so is the "bed" Dave and Mel sleep on when they're here. It's amazing the stuff you hold on to that you don't need to. I've been trying to attack it in little bits so I don't get overwhelmed. I also managed to get the last coat of paint on Abby's new bedroom door. I did sit down and relax when Jeff stopped over to visit this afternoon. He had been in Florida when Maya got home from the hospital so this was his first chance to spend time with her since he got home.
Maya is growing by leaps and bounds. Today at the doctor's she weighed a whopping 8 lbs 5oz. She gained almost a pound in a week. She's putting weight on much quicker than Abby did. Maya had one eye that had been pretty weepy the last couple of days. Apparently when babies are premature their tear ducts aren't always open yet. Her right eye is fine, but her left eye we have to massage the inner corner to help her tear duct open. She hasn't grown in length, but the doc felt good about her weight gain, so she wasn't concerned. She goes back again in two weeks for another check up.
