People Who Need People

That's me. I'm a people who need People. As I have whined many times on this very blog Mike and I are on the Debt Diet. That means the days of paying for enjoyment are long gone. That's right no more I don't feel like cooking let's hit Wendy's/McDonald's/Subway nights. No more ditching the kids off on any willing Grandparent and heading out to a "swanky" restaurant like Kelsey's/Montanta's/East Side Marios. Unless we have a gift card that is.It also means I had to give up my People magazine addiction. Cold turkey. The detox was tough, let me tell you. It doesn't help that every week we do our grocery shopping it's beautiul glossy cover beckons me at the check out line. It's killing me not to know about Paula Abdul's new man, what's next for Nick and the shocking new evidence in Princess Diana's death.

Last week was my birthday and while my WalMart gift card was squandered on mostly family related necessities such as diapers, milk and bread I did insist on the latest copy of People magazine. I have been in posession of the April 24th issue, with Katie Holmes smiling sweetly on the cover above the title; Inside Katie's New World for 6 days now. In the pre-Debt Diet days I would have long since devoured the magazine cover to cover. This time I've just barely read past the reviews of movies (Kinky Boots - Good), TV (Honey We're Killing the Kids - Bad), music (Willie Nelson You Don't Know Me - Great), and books (Sweet and Low by Rich Cohen - Pretty Good). I read the MailBag, but with less relish than I used to. You see I didn't read the issue that people are offering up their two cents about so how am I supposed to know who's letter pisses me off, which one I agree with and which writer is just totally off their nut? I've glanced at the pictures of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson on vacation in Australia (seriously, aren't their 15 minutes up yet?), was disturbed by the pictue of Mariah Carey in a bikini (is that girl ever covered up?) and checked out Nick Lachey's, alledged, new girl friend (why do guys seem to move on to the next one so quickly?), but I have yet to read a single article. I keep flipping through, looking at the pictures and glossing over the articles, but I haven't spent any real time with it because I know once I've read this issue... well it will be like the cadbury Easter eggs. I won't see another one for a long long time.

That's disappointing because I'm missing out on some hard hitting news:
  • Team Nick t-shirts are out selling Team Jessica t-shirts 20 to 1. I picked up my Team Nick t-shirt last week. My Team Aniston shirt was starting to get a little ratty.
  • Another article involving Britney Spears and her latest baby drama. FYI Brit, you should get those roots touched up.
  • Frankie Muniz is all of the sudden going to be a F1 racer. Isn't he only 12?
  • J.Lo's suing her ex over his "steamy memoir" - The Unknown Truth: A Passionate Portrait of a Serial Thriller. Gotta love the title
  • Nicolette Sheridan and Michael Bolton: Part 2. They may be Hollywood's happiest new (again) couple, but Nic's ex-fiancee is riding the bitter bus and offering her engagement ring up for sale on eBay.
  • Heather Locklear dating David Spade... WTF! Does anybody get this? And now Heather's BF Denise Richards is dating her ex Richie Sambora. And Denise just filed a 17 page request for a restraining order against her ex Charlie Sheen citing all sorts of bizarre behaivour. Man next week's issue is going to be all killer no filler.
  • The Private World of Katie Holmes.. this story pales in comparison to what I'm sure they'll come up with next week as the "TomKitten" has arrived. I predict Tom and Katie on the cover with the whole Spade/Locklear/Sambora/Richards/Sheen thing on the side bar.
  • Let's not forget the birth of baby Moses, the break up, again, of Eminem and wife Kim after their recent remarriage, some disturbing post plastic surgery pictures of the Gambler; Kenny Rogers and the recent engagement of the not yet divorced Chad Michael Murray, star of One Tree Hill and his 18 year old fiancee. Surprisingly her parents are okay with this.
Oh People, I'll miss you when you're gone.

p.s. Since we're talking celebrities today, the boys at pocketsizedfilms have a new short film up on the site for your viewing pleasure. I recommend you check it out.
