It was Perfect

Yesterday was Maya's baptism and what a beautiful day it was. Of course a day removed from the whole production helps to fade the memories that, at the time, were a bit more stress inducing. Things like getting the food ready, having to stand up in front of the whole congregation and speak and of course decorating the cake. I don't know what got into me, but for some reason I just decided I would make Maya's cake. Now that in itself is not a big deal. I bake cakes all the time, but this one I was going to decorate. All by myself. With only one previous cake decorating experience under my belt. And that was a frsot by numbers type of situation. Maya's cake was going to be freestyle. Just to turn the pressure cooker up a bit I decided I would spend the evening relaxing and visiting with my family and start the cake baking/decorating process after everyone was tucked soundly in bed. So there I was at 2 am whipping up a batch of pink frosting to make this:

My alignment defintely needs some work, but I'm not entirely disappointed with the end result. There wasn't much cake left to take home, so I have to assume people weren't repulsed by it.

Maya looked absolutely angelic in her gown. The same gown that was worn by her older sister and her Grandpa Steve over 55 years ago back in the Channel Islands. I don't have much in the way of physical things left from my Dad, but thanks to my Mom I have that. It's truly a gorgeous gown. Well it's two actually, a satin under dress and a lace over dress. It does have a satin bonnet that goes with it, but Yoles got her a beautiful bonnet that turns into a hankie for Maya to carry on her wedding day.

Maya and her Godmother, how cute are they? Maya was great during the service. She stayed sitting quietly in my lap finally dozing off just before our cue. Papa Brian and Abby poured water into the font, Mike, Yoles and I answered some important questions and then it was Maya's big moment. She slept right through the entire thing. And continues to sleep through the end of the service and most of the pictures. She finally woke up and started getting restless and that was our cue to move on.

Dad and Linda were gracious enough to host a lunch for the family afterwards. It being a Revill function there was , of course, no shortage of food. So we all stuffed ourselves and shared some time together.

Maya slept, blissfully, through the entire thing being passed from one set of arms to another. Here she is with Auntie Melvis.

Abby was in her glory running around with Robins 4 girls. Of course she did take some time out to tease Papa. Somebody, I'm not sure who because it wasn't me, taught her to touch her own eyeball because it turns Papa's stomach. Now I'll somebody will have to teach her to play see-food with Grandma Linda and my somebody's work will be complete.

We did take a bunch of staged shots with various family members, but Dave took them with my Mom's camera and she had to jet off early to see some ridiculous really cool Elvis tribute concert. So I'll post some of those when I get them.

Yep, yesterday was a perfect day. So just to keep the world in cosmic balance today Abby drew on the coffee table with a pencil crayon that somehow got missed during "Operation Hide Abby's Crayons and Markers". I believe she had it stashed in a hollowed out colouring book. Which proves my theory that she's watching Prison Break like it's a how-to show and not the tautly written drama that it is. She also fouled a nearly full 4L jug of spring water with God knows what. Then at the opposite end of the spectrum she used almost an enitre bottle of shampoo to wash her bath tub toys. On a positive note the tub toys are now "silky, supple, luminous and enhanced with essences of coconut and palm oils". So it was early to bed for her after a lecture about wasting money that I wasn't sure she was understanding until she offered me the $1.81 she had in her pants pocket so I could buy new shampoo. She was so serious about it that I nearly started laughing while at the same time getting a little lump in my throat. She's cute, but I still took the money.

*This post was supposed to be entitled, My Brother's An Asshole because he is, but that story will have to wait for another time.

** Yes we did finally let Michael in on the dog-sitting joke. Sunday morning before Church he was in the middle of yet another rant about me lying by omission and blah blah blah when Dave let him off the hook. He took it with sour grapes good humour and called us all assholes had a good laugh.
