Here's The Wind Up

My brother and his wife are here with us for the weekend. Maya is being Christened on Sunday and they came down to share in the festivities with us. As they usually do they brought Adelaide with them. Now Mike and I aren't really dog people. I mean we like dogs well enough, we just aren't down with having one bunk with us full time. Adelaide is a well trained dog. She listens well and stays in our yard when we let her out. Mike has been heard to remark if we ever were to have a dog he'd like one like Adelaide. Of course the ever is really a never so it doesn't much matter what kind of dog Michael would like to have.

Now Dave and Mike have an interesting relationship. Mike has some pretty specific boundaries. He doesn't really like stepping outside of his box too much. He's a homebody, doesn't like to stray too far from home and always likes to have a pretty set plan in place as to where we're going, how we're getting there and how long before we get back home. Dave, apparently, has made it his sole mission in life to constantly force Mike to stretch his boundaries with a healthy and respectful balance of nagging and put downs. The kind of nagging and put downs that can only go on between two men. Stuff that would cause a life time of hate if it went down between women. Dave's actually been pretty successful with his campaign. Mike has tried sushi and Indian food and loved both as a direct result of "The Plan". Dave once even convinced Mike to go out to a friends place at the unheard of hour of 11 pm one night. That required a remarkable amount of work. Even Dave admitted later he didn't think there was a chance Mike would agree to go.

Sometimes, just to keep Mike on his toes, Dave will mess with his head just a little bit by creating a fictional scenario to annoy Mike with. Mike falls for it each and every time. The latest one started an hour or so after they got here and involves Adelaide. As we started playing poker last night Dave mentioned how great it was of us to take Adelaide for them while they were away for two and a half weeks. Mike, of course, is the only one at the table not in on the joke. The good news, for Mike, is Mel and I are always very quick to help out with the cause even tough we never get any prior warning of it. So the three of us sit there and work out how it would be easier if they just left Adelaide with us now instead of bringing her back next week and as a result upping her stay from 2.5 weeks to 3.5 weeks. Mike's eye were nearly bulging out of his head as he tried not to let it show how angry he actually was about the arrangement. Ahhaaaa ha ha ha. It was a thing of beauty.

Dave and Mel are out right now so Mike is taking the opportunity to bust my chops about agreeing to take Adelaide without discussing it with him. A transcript follows: I can't believe you. We should have discussed this. If I had done this without asking you'd be pissed at me. I don't like dogs. I don't want a dog. And so on.

I think we could keep this going to whole weekend. (Rubbing my hands together in a devillish fashion). Why on earth does he make it so easy for us?
