I gotta tell ya having Abby in school is putting me in the poor house. I don't think there has been a day I haven't sent her to school with a cheque. So much for "free" public education. So far I've had to cough up dough for a month's worth of pizza days, books from the Scholastic Books catalogue, Entertainment book (school fundraiser), school agendas, Meet the Teacher BBQ and Abby's first school trip. Yes in a couple of weeks Abby and the restof her j/k class will be off on their very first school trip to the exciting world of a working farm.
Now I remember way way way back when I was just a youngster and we would have a school trip planned. I would bring home one sheet of paper that had all the pertinent information on it. Then my Mom would snip off the bottom 3 inches, sign her name and I'd be off to the ROM with the rest of my class. Oh boy folks, have things changed. Abby's trip is going to be 3 hours long. Not that there couldn't be trouble on a three hour tour.... we all remember Gilligan, the Skipper too, the Millionaire.... okay I'm getting off track here. My point is they aren't even leaving the district and yet the information package that came home with her was 5 pages long. Yep you read that right, 5 pages long.
Page 1: General overview letter regarding the trip, who, what, where and when.
Page 2: More indepth overview form for the trip; address, phone number and contact person at the destination, length of trip, teachers involved, number of students attending, number of volunteers needed, amount of School Council subsidy per student and so on.
Page 3: Permission form listing who the emergency contact people will be for the day of the trip, Abby's Health card number and Doctor's name.
Page 4: Waiver: I acknowledge that Abby may come home from her trip sunburnt, strained, sprained, concussed or contused.
Page 5: Emergency Contact information... again..... who can pick Abby up if Mike and I can't be reached .... again.... Health Card number... again.
I was an hour tonight doing all my necessary homework before I send her back to school tomorrow and I'm not finished. I still need to gather up some canned goods for the Thanksgiving food drive. Who knew j/k was going to be this much work... for me?
