Little Moments

Something woke me up, but what? I lay there, quietly, trying to figure it out. Then I hear it. A soft whisper, "Mommy." A pause and then again, "Mommy." I open my eyes. The room is dark. The sun has not yet thought about rising. She whispers again, "Mommy." She leans over me, I can barely make out her features. Her hair falls forward and hides her face, "Mommy." I whisper back, "What's the matter?" My hand reaches out to brush her hair away from her face. "What's the matter?" She lays her body across my chest. We breathe against each other. Her arms reach out the encircle me. Her hair draped across my shoulder. I rub my hand across her back. "What's the matter?" She turns to look at me, "Wanted to tell you, you're the best Mom ever."

Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~ Elizabeth Stone
