What's Cooking Wednesday - Cheeseburger by the Slice

Well move over Oprah, there's a new sven gali in town. It's been well documented that I pretty much do whatever Oprah commands me to and that's been working out pretty well for me. In the last month or so I stumbled upon a little show on the FoodNetwork and I quickly became seriously addicted. Yes my new Supreme Leader is Sandi Richard of the show Fixing Dinner. Now, Ms. Richard is the mother of 7 (seven!) kids who devised a meal planning system that eliminated the dinner time chaos at her house. That turned into a meal planning career and eventually my new favourite TV show. I have actually started using some of her meal planning idea, like cooking for two meals at a time. I also switched from a 7 meals per week plan to a 5 meals per week plan. This week I thought I'd attempt one of her recipes.

Cheeseburger By The Slice

1 frozen pie crust
1 lb ground beef
3 tbsp onion flakes
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup corn flake crumbs
1/2 cup ketchup
1 1/2 tsp mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp Italian Seasoning
1/2 tsp hot chili sauce
1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Thaw pie crust at room temperature. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown beef in fry pan. Add onion flakes and water; mix well. Add cornflake crumbs, ketchup, mustard, pepper, italian seasoning and hot chili sauce. Mix well.

Pour meat mixture into pie shell. Smooth top; cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Take foil off; cover with cheese and broil until cheese bubbles. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Recipe Notes: This was a quick and easy recipe to make. It even passed the Abby taste test with flying colours. Personally I skipped the onion flakes and just used some finely chopped onion that I cooked with the beef. Just add a green salad and that's dinner. 3.5/5
