What did we do on our vacation yesterday, I can hear you all wondering? Well yesterday was a parental day of decadence. Abby went off to school and from there on a field trip or a school adventure as she called it, to the Royal Botanical Gardens. They fed chipmunks and chickadees and they attempted the cedar maze where the teacher and "all the children got lost, but found their out on the path." Thank goodness.
With Abby taken care of we spirited Maya off to the sitter's while Mike and I went out to do some shopping and have lunch. This was Michael's suggestion on how to spend our day and I agreed because, well, it's his holiday too, but those who know me know this isn't something I like to do. I have a hard time sending my kids to the sitter's when there isn't any need for it. We definitely could have taken Maya with us, but to be fair, it would have been a bunch more work and we likely would have rushed through our errands without taking the time to enjoy any of it. Not to mention, Maya would have been board stiff and well all know a bored one year old equals a cranky fussy whiny crying one year old. So in the end I was happy I swallowed that Mommy guilt and got on with it.
Our first stop was the hobby store where Mike indulged his inner hobby geek. I, wisely, thought to bring my book with me to occupy my time instead of trailing behind him asking if he was finished looking yet or sitting in the van angrily counting the minutes and cursing his soul to hell and back like I usually do. This time I was peeved he was back so quick because this new book, Lifeguardby James Patterson is gooooood, so far anyway I'm only a couple of chapters in.
After that was Big Orange aka Home Depot for those not in the know, to pick up more paint for the living room. I have been given assurances that the painting of said living room will finally be complete by week's end, just in time for our new-to-us furniture. Then it was onto lunch, which was pricey, but not overly so and what the hell anyway we're on holidays.
Of course my favourite part of the day was the dollar store shopping spree. I waltzed up and down the aisles tossing things in the cart with impunity and only spent a grand total of $15. Gotta love the dollar store. My best purchase was this ribbon on a string thingy, like they use in rhythmic gymnastics. Abby and Zebby are in love with it. We capped the day off with grocery shopping and then lazed about until it was time to get Maya from the sitters and Abby off the bus.
