end of the year

Today Abby got her end of the year report card and it was full of usually's, generally's, appropriate's and a few good understanding's. All meaning she's not the best kid in the class nor is she the worse rather she's comfortably in the middle on most things. Although, she can "capably discuss basic safety rules for the gym, traffic and bike safety with a high degree of effectiveness." Yeah, we were pretty impressed with that one too. The report let us know that Abby has adapted to the J/K routine well, but we could easily tell that. She also has "a good understanding of herself as an artist" and she enjoys exploring music. Also things we have recognized here at home.

Overall her report was complimentary and it was nice to see what she has accomplished during the course of the year. Of course, it also gave us areas to focus on over the summer to better prepare her for s/k. Printing with Abby continues to be a bit of a struggle. She can do it, but she doesn't have much interest in doing it. We have the printing exercise books, but I'm lucky if I can get her to work on them for longer than 5 minutes. Her teacher said much the same thing in both this report and her previous one. She does enjoy writing letters, so if anybody out there is interested in having a 5 year old pen pal let me know. We're also encouraged to spend extra time working with reading, letter recognition, number recognition and identifying small words.

Along with her report card, Abby came home with a DVD that her teacher had made. This truly amazing woman had been taking pictures of the kids all year and made each kid the star of their very own slide show. The pictures were set to I Hope You Had the Time of Your Life by Green Day. Abby begged to have us put it in the DVD player as soon as she got home. We sat together and watched it with her, Mike and I in tears by the end and Abby looked at us with a big grin on her face and said, "I had the time of my life."
