Now what you may not know is our string of baby good luck/bad luck actually started with Abby, who was born three weeks early and with a very large VSD (translation = hole in her heart). I will admit to feeling pretty numb during those five days Abby spent in NICU. We took no pictures of her there, probably because I was hoping to just forget the whole thing. Pretend it never happened. It wasn't too long afterwards that I regretted that decision because I am a picture taker, a documenter and I felt like I had left part of Abby's story out.
So fast forward four years later and we're back in the same place only worse. Maya was in NICU for three weeks. So once the scariest part was over we did take pictures of Maya, not as many as I wished I had of now, but enough. And this one is one of my favourites.
Being a month early Maya's ears had yet to unroll, making them look decidedly elfin. It was the cutest thing and made my heart melt every time I looked at them. I made sure to take pictures because, as we were told, her ears would figure themselves out. And that was partially true...
I snapped this of Maya last night. While one ear successfully unrolled to the traditional ear shape, her left one has stubbornly held on to it's elfin like properties. And it's still the cutest thing ever.
