i don't know, i think it was a success

It was a pretty quiet weekend around here with Abby gone to Niagara Falls with Papa and Grandma Linda. Even poor Maya didn't quite know what to do with herself, wandering around alternately asking if Abby was "school bus" or Abby was "weeping". Which translates into sleeping in regular people talk. Each time she asked for her beloved sister I told her that Abby was on vacation and she would reply either "oh yay!" or "okay". Then we would repeat this 10 minutes later. For two whole days. Of course you know when Abby finally got home around lunchtime today Maya wanted absolutely nothing to do with her. Even though Abby thoughtfully brought her a Valentine's present. It's a week late, but as they say, it's the thought that counts. It's one of those plastic sticks that makes that funny springy noise when you shake it or turn it upside down. Abby thought it would be a terrific toy for Maya to take to bed with her. Aw she's funny that girl.

At this point I'm not sure if the weekend has officially been classified a success or not. Once you weigh in the 3 am puking, you can see how it the final decision could still be up in the air. Now I wasn't there, obviously, but from all reports it was a far from perfect trip. Hey, any trip where vomiting takes place is less than ideal. There were some other issues as well, a little bit of home sickness that corresponded with her waking up from a late afternoon nap. The Rain Forest Cafe was too noisy for her. She was a little freaked out by the butterflies at the Butterfly Sanctuary, only, she says, because it's winter. Apparently in the spring, or even summer, it would have been okay. One thing I do know for certain, Grandma Linda and Papa were in need of a nap this afternoon.

Now for Abby she says she had just about the best time ever. She got to swim in the pool and took a soak in the hot tub. Something she had been particularly interested in since well before she knew about the trip. Most kids watch commercials and want the latest toy, mine wants a hot tub. Now that she's actually been in one she's pretty insistent that Mike install one off the deck, like yesterday. They had a fallsview room, which she enjoyed. Even more so because smart thinking Papa brought the binoculars. She had a bath in the jacuzzi tub, which was also great fun even when Grandma Linda accidentally hit the switch and sent water spraying everywhere. She can't wait to go again next year when she's older, because then she'll get to stay in the pool and hot tub longer. She's part mermaid, that kid of mine.
