blog this #4

Family time is important to us. One of our favourite way to spend family time is with a board game. I have always loved board games, but it's not really something we did a lot of as a family when I was growing up. I always promised myself that when I had a family of my own game night would be a big thing. Imagine how thrilled I was when Abby loved game night just as much as I hoped she would. And already Maya can be found playing Lucky Ducks and Cariboo on her own with her own set of rules, of course. And I love it. Which leads me to ask.......

Does your family play boards games? If so what are your favourites?

Blog This rules:

Here’s what happens:

1. I start with a question/phrase.

2. The first commenter answers that question and leaves a new question for the next visitor to answer. It could be a general question, fill in the blank sentence, a “tell me about a time when,” etc.

3. The next commenter answers the new question and provides a question for the next visitor.

4. And so forth until you’re all bored to tears. Yes, I expect actual tears before we stop (photographic evidence will do).

5. Note: I reserve the right to delete or modify any questions that, you know, rub me the wrong way. Ahem.

Yes, we play board games although not as a whole family yet. I play a lot with Emily when she doesn't nap. Our favourites right now are Honey Bee Tree, what we call "The Lady Bug Game" and any memory game.

John and I played a lot of board games when we were first married, particularly Scrabble. We also have played a lot of cards with friends and LOTS of Cranium. I expect we'll be playing it this weekend in fact.

Now for the question: what was your favourite game to play when you were a kid? (can be a board game, a group game like hide and seek or whatever)

Hmmm...
when I was a kid I liked playing "Risk" (which, now, I think is kinda' strange and I wonder how on earth I knew the rules) and "Battleship" and "Mastermind". I think "Mastermind" was my favourite. We don't play too many games now, but I really do like the idea of a family game night so...

What is the *best*, most fun, game for the grown-ups and what is the bestest, most funnest, game for little kids (under, say, age 8)?

{maybe i'll go buy your recommendations!} :)

I like Pictionary for grownups (and kids, really).

For the little ones, my DS (9) still really enjoys Cadoo, children's Scrabble, checkers, chess and Monopoly.

My question...Does anyone remember the sequence and the 'chant' that went with the game where you bounce a tennis ball up against the wall, clap once, spin around, toss the ball under your leg, etc... ?

I love the game checkers but never learned to play chess. Anyone love to play chess?

loved board games as a kid...and since I was an only child for 8 years, I had to develop multiple personalities to play against. Wow. I'm glad that didn't stick!

DH doesn't like board games, but little d is beginning to enjoy them. HURRAY!
