what's cooking wednesday - rum slush

Like sands through the hour glass this summer is just slipping through my fingers. In a blink Abby will be back in school, the pool will be emptied and put in storage, the leaves will turn colour and I will annoy you all by completing my Christmas shopping ridiculously early (have I mentioned I've already started?). So before it's all just a memory I thought I better share this recipe with you while you still have time to enjoy it. This recipe was given to me by Grandma Linda when I was a very young brand new bride. Maybe she was trying to tell me that this marriage thing goes a whole lot easier if you develop a taste for alcohol.

rum slush

Rum Slush

7 cups water
2 cups sugar

Bring to a boil. Boil until sugar is dissolved. Cool and add....

1 can frozen lemonade
1 can frozen orange juice
2 cups white rum

Stir and put mixture in a container with a tight fitting lid and put in the freezer. Usually takes 2 days to freeze. Stir after 1 day.

Spoon into glasses (about 1/3 full give or take) and top up with 7up or Sprite.

Recipe Notes: Perfect drink on a hot summer day. Obviously you can adjust the amount of slush in your drink to your own taste. Oh and this time around I was out of lemonade and used limeade. Still delicious!

What is What's Cooking Wednesday and how can I play?

What's cooking Wednesday was born out of a desire to get out of that what's for dinner rut. Playing is easy, on Wednesday post a recipe that has been tried and tested by you and then pop over here and add your name to the Mr. Linky. When entering your name also add the name of the recipe in brackets and make sure you link to your What's Cooking Wednesday post and not just your blog's front page. And don't forget to link back here, the home of What's Cooking Wednesday.

So for example I would write Shan (Speedy Chicken Stir Fry) in the name section. For the URL section I would post this: http://shanrev.blogspot.com/2007/10/whats-cooking-wednesday-speedy-chicken.html

I'll let you in on a little secret. Much to Kaffy's chagrin, my WCW recipes are almost never made on a Wednesday. So feel free to cook and photograph whenever you have time and join us posting on Wednesday.

This looks dreamy -- I wonder if it works without the rum (I am on antibiotics right now). I think it would, right?

Yum! When is typically to early to make this? We're in the throws of the trying threes... I could really use this right now! :)

What are you doing to me, Shan?!!
That looks completely delicious.

Heather - it's always after noon ~somewhere~ in the world! Please have one for me; I'm Irish, I'm pregnant, and I'm drooling.

;-)

I'm going to be late posting my recipe again. It'll be up tomorrow. I wish it was because I was heavily into these rum slushes.

I be tryin' that soon!

city girl - I'm not sure. I think the alcohol is what keeps it from freezing solid.

Heather - as Normie says it's gotta be noon somewhere.

Normie - I'm sorry! Next summer I promise you we'll be enjoying rum slush by the pool.

Jen - It sure is! Love having it on hand in the freezer.

Karen - Let me know how you like it.

Erin - yes it is the perfect girls night drink!
