maple syrup

Well it's that time of year again. When it warms up just a little bit and we all head outside and pretend it's already spring. Our neighbour around the corner had tapped his trees to make maple syrup, so we took the kids on a little stroll to get an up close look at the process.

I'm sorry to say that all our little stroll did was convince Mike we should tap the trees in our backyard and make some maple syrup ourselves. I can only hope he gets distracted by something shiny before he actually starts drilling holes in our trees.

why do you hope Mike won't tap the maples?

My dad used to tap about 40 trees on our property almost every Spring when I was growing up. I have so many good memories of helping him collect the sap, and of watching him boil the sap up over a wood fire. It is a huge amount of work, though, that's for sure.

LOL! My hubs is the same way...let's plant a garden...let's do this, that...blah blah! =)

Totally awesome experience for the kiddos though!

i love how there are tapped trees along your street. wicked amount of work for so little in return, but too fun for the kids!

it's a banner year this year for the sap to run. cold night and warm days. we are heading to the sugar shack on the 28th to get our fill. can't wait!
