holidays

So a couple of people... okay maybe it was just one person.... asked if I could post a list of the fun and wacky holidays we are celebrating in the year of AWESOME. Well I can do you one better, here's the link to an entire year's worth of fun and wacky holidays. I take a look at what's on tap for the month and then pick some fun ones to add to the calendar. I'm trying not to make it anything to elaborate. For example it was National Chocolate Mint day yesterday so we stirred up some After Eight hot chocolate to sip while we played a rousing game of Blokus (excellent family game night game, by the by.).

Other holidays I work into our dinner plans. For example of Chinese new year we ordered in chinese. Can I tell you how excited I am that the kids have decided Chinese food is yummy... even if all they eat is chicken balls and lemon chicken... oh and the noodles for the soup dipped in sweet and sour sauce.... it's a start, right?

Still other holidays just provide some talking points at dinner, like choosing your own name. That was fun to see what they came up with. I still have no idea where Abby got Trixie from. And some just make for some nice family time, it's tell a fairy tale day next week, so we'll pull out some books and read together that evening probably while having hot chocolate.... who says you can't celebrate Chocolate Mint Day all year?
