The Latest

It was great to see Maya in the Level 2 nursery today. It's a much more relaxed place to visit. There's not the great sense of urgency you feel in Level 3 Neonatal. We took Mike's Dad and Linda down to visit her tonight and I think it relieved them to see her doing much better. We got there just in time for her dinner bottle so Linda sat with me while I fed her. Tonight she drank 80 mls in no time flat. A huge improvement from her taking an hour to drink 40 mls. After she eats Mike and I usually cuddle her, but tonight we had Abby waiting in the family room for us. So I had a short cuddle and then Linda had a turn. Then I figured I wouldn't push my luck with having Abby wait too long. She was having a hard time adjusting to the fact that although she was at the hospital she still couldn't see baby Maya. I did my best to explain to her that she was too little to go and visit Maya right now, but she'd be home soon. Abby whined a little bit, but she seemed to be okay with the whole idea overall. Even if she was able to see Maya I don't think I'd let her. It is a little overwhelming.

The nurse told us tonight that they want to keep her on the antibiotics until Sunday night at 10 pm, so we're hopeful that they'll let her come home Monday. That, right now, is the only hold up. My poor little girl has been turned into a pin cushion. Last night they had to shave a bit of her head, right at top of her head and also a spot above her right ear. The nurse was nice enough to save the hair in a little test tube for us. They had moved her IV to her head to keep her from pulling it out, but now they can't find a vein on her head that will work. So they had shaved it to get a better look at things. Currently she has bruises on her arms, hands, thigh, head and feet from the various places her IV has been inserted. They have moved it back to her foot and we're hoping that she will leave it alone until Sunday night when they can take it out. If not they'll have to insert a pic line. That would involve cutting a flap of skin back so they could get right at the vein. We're hoping they won't have to do that since it's a pretty invasive procedure. She had a splint on the foot with the IV earlier today, but they had taken it off when we were back this evening and so far she's left it alone.

Dave arrived with Mel tonight and we'll be heading down to introduce Auntie Mel to Maya tomorrow. I know she's been dying to come and see her. Abby didn't know they were coming. she's going to be thrilled when she wakes up in the morning. I'm hoping she doesn't make too much of a fuss when we leave her to go to the hospital. I think everyone's had just about enough of these multiple trips to the hospital. Thankfully they'll be over soon.
