So far I've done pretty well or so Mike tells me. I've been back in my pre-Maya jeans since a week or so after her birth. That was a good feeling. I guess the combination of hospital food and acute stress makes for a great diet.
My diet of choice this time around has been SlimFast. Well the Equate Meal Replacement. We're not Rockefeller. I decided to try Slim Fast for a variety of reasons. The first being Consumer Reports recently rated it number 2, after Weight Watchers, for results, ease of use, sustainability to name a few. Now if there's one thing I have learned from my sister-in-law's father it's that Consumer Reports is the place to go for imformation about anything. Or instead of doing all that research yourself you can just ask him. I haven't spoken to Mel's dad very often, but every time I do Consumer Reports seems to pop up in the conversation.
Plus it is very easy. And these days I'm looking for anything easy. From the second my feet hit the floor in the morning, after being summoned by a screaming child, usually Maya, sometimes Abby and some mornings both, I'm just going in a million different directions. Maya needs (read demands) to be fed, Abby wants to be fed, but will wait until Maya's done. Then there's bum changes, getting them dressed, bottles to make, dishes to wash, laundry and.... well you get the picture. So the fact that I can have my "delicious shake" for breakfast while I'm waiting for Maya's bottle to warm up is one more thing I can cross of my to-do list.
This morning I tried to trick the girls into letting me get a bit more sleep. I managed to steal an extra hour without the house caving in, so that was good. Once I realized I wasn't going to get anymore than that I knew only a shower would make me feel remotely human. So with one kid sleeping I set the other kid up at the computer while I snuck off to the shower leaving the door ajar so I could listen for any loud crashes. Now my Equate Meal Replacement powder was getting dangerously low. I had a can of strawberry and a can of chocolate powder. Between the two I guessitmated I had enough left to get me two maybe three more shakes.
Trying to be helpful in that special way that only unsupervised children are, Abby made me breakfast. She was waiting for me as soon as I got out of the shower with a juice glass full of murky brown liquid with a thick sludgy pink bottom. She handed me the glass, complete with spoon for stirring, with a very proud smile. Out of the goodness of her heart and with access to the water cooler she made my shake with ice cold water. Something else we were dangerously low on and it's a vital component of the bottle making process. She also had a teacup filled with a slightly watered down version of my drink, that was her breakfast, or so she told me. I thanked her profusely, so I wouldn't hurt her feelings, and discreetly poured both glasses down the drain. What very little there was left of my shake powder was sprinkled over my kitchen table, counter top and various parts of the floor waiting to be sucked up by the Swiffer Sweeper Vac.
Today was a gorgeous day, nice and sunny, not too cold. Abby was excited to spend some time outside. I ws excited to use the clothes line. I love the smell of clothes dried outside. I love not using that hydro sucking dryer even more. Anyway I took lots of pics today so check them out in my photostream.
