One Day At a Time

*I typed this up last night only to find blogger down when I attempted to post it.

Well I have to admit today did not go as well as yesterday. I had a pretty rotten sleep last night. I seem to be holding on to this dry cough. I hardly cough through the day, but once I'm in bed trying to sleep I can't seem to stop for any great length of time. Maya was up around 3 am and then again at 6:50. I was hoping to get her fed and back into bed before Miss Abby was awake, but that just wasn't going to be my luck today. I now sooner got Maya settled back in bed when I heard Abby get up. All I can say is thank God for Teletoon having Scooby Doo on first thing in the morning. I brought Abby across the hall and into bed with me to watch cartoons.

Before too long she wanted to watch.... the Swan Princess. We have satelite and a tempermental DVD player in our room, but of course The Swan Princess is a tape she borrowed from my Mom so we moved the operation downstairs. I started the movie and promptly went back to sleep on the couch. Abby sat quietly watching her movie and building puzzles. She let me sleep for a while and then woke me up to ask if she could play playdoh. At that point I was feeling human enough to get up and get on with the day. Abby was a huge help again today. At one point Maya was in her stroller crying, I mean wailing for her bottle and there was Abby very quietly singing twinkle twinkle little star to her again. The only rough spots we had today were times when Abby had to wait for me because I was busy with Maya. For example she's mastered the art of toilet training, but the act of wiping her own poopie bum alludes her. Of course she had to poop while I was in the middle of feeding Maya. I tried to get her to at least attempt to wipe herself but she was content to stand in the bathroom with her pants around her ankles reminding me every 30 seconds she needed help while she emptied a roll of toilet paper into the toilet.

As soon as Mike walked in the door from work she turned into Princess Whines-a-lot. It was just non-stop whining and/or crying until Papa stopped by unexpectedly. Then of course she was all smiles again and loving her Daddy. Maya has her first doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon so we're trying to co-ordinate a sleep over for Abby somewhere. I think she needs a little time where she can be the center of attention. I don't know if it will work out or if she'll even want to go, but I think she needs a break. Being a big sister is a bigger job than I think she was expecting.

That's probably why I had a splitting headache by dinner time. One that 3 extra strength Advil haven't been able to cure. I'd love to go to bed right now, but I have Maya asleep in my lap. Apparently I can still type with a sleeping newborn in my arms without bothering her at all. She had her bottle around 9 pm and has pretty much been awake since then. She did finally drift off about 15 minutes ago so I'm debating whether I should try and go to bed myself since she'll likely want to eat again in the not too distant future... like 30 minutes-ish. Never know though she could sleep longer... it's a gamble.

One last funny Abby story before I go..... She made me take Maya on a tour of the house today. Abby of course was our tour guide. She though Baby Maya needed to see her bedroom, the toy room and where "her Mommy sleeps". Maya slept through the whole thing, but Abby didn't seem to notice.
