Well Maya is nearly a month old and since she's been born I have been writing almost everyday. Always about the kids. So just to mix things up a bit, today I'm going to write about Michael.
Mike and I have been together for a long time. We dated for 7 years before we decided to get married. I agreed to marry him because I could tell he was destined for great things. Well today folks on February 16th, 2006 our ship has finally come in. Yeah that's right, it's easy street for us. Once word gets out we'll be the envy of all our friends. I'm hoping it won't change our life too much. I mean we are still the same people we were before good fortune smiled at us.
At any given time there are a million contests out there. They're on the internet, in the mail, on TV, in magazines and so on. How many times do you actually enter these contests. If you're anything like me then never. Michael, however, is a different breed so when he saw a contest being advertised in Today's Parent magazine he hopped online and entered right away. Yeah I was shocked that Mike was reading Today's Parent magazine too. It would have been nice if he had read some articles about raising children instead of only reading about this contest, but it worked out pretty good for us anyway.
This very afternoon I was checking our email and this one particular message in our inbox; well I instantly assumed it was of the spam variety. Lucky for us I can't delete an email without looking at it first. I scanned the body of the email and a few keys words immediatley jumped out at me. Words like... winner, confirmed, sign attached document and so on. There was an attached pdf file which I opened to reveal the Prize Release and Declaration Form. Mike would have to print off the form, fill it out, have somebody witness his signature and by Canadian law answer a skill testing question without the aid of an electronic device. Once completed it was to be faxed back to their office so his prize could be released. I had to read it several times before it actually sunk it. Of course I called Mike at work to tell him of our good fortune. Once he heard he was tempted to walk out of work just then, but I convinced him that he should at least finish out the day.
Tonight we talked briefly about what we would like to do with our windfall. In what way would it do us the most good? Should we share our winnings and if so with who? So many questions, so many decisions to make. That $50 Pizza Pizza gift card could be gone before we know it if we don't plan this out carefully.
