Oh, back so soon?

Day two, Maya's first day at the sitter's. I really didn't know what to expect. She hesitated for a moment when Mike went to hand her over and I waited for the wails, for the outstretched arms, the big wet tears that never came. She barely blinked as Mike and I shuffled back out the door. I paused for a moment on the other side expecting to hear her and still there was nothing. I refrained from calling to check in, knowing our sitter would call me if she needed to and she didn't. Maya surprised us all and was fantastic. Our sitter told us she wished every kid's first day could be that great. Aside from a brief episode of the crankies before her morning nap she was nothing, but pleasant all day. By the time we got there this afternoon Maya was happily shouting gibberish at the other kids and seemed only vaguely pleased to see us.

Wow, I don't even have a child and yet I'm dreading the day that I drop off him/her somewhere and he/she is fine with that. It's just a testament to how well you've raised her to this point, blah blah, but maybe she could at least fake a tear next time? Hope work is going well.

It might sting a little bit, but I'm so happy they fine being apart from me. I was a painfully shy child and I would hate whenever my Mom left us. It was just agony for me. I really didn't want that for them, but you know, they could at least pretend. Give me a little something.
