"Mom. Mom!"
Abby is beside me calling my name, rousing me from my sleep. It's early, but not too early. Still, I am not yet ready to be awake. I turn towards her, but don't open my eyes, "What?" I half croak half whisper back to her.
"I made you breakfast in bed."
I open my eyes and take a quick inventory, Mike is still in bed, either asleep or pretending to be. Abby stands beside the bed with a basket in one hand and a mug in the other. She is grinning, one of those "I am so proud of myself" grins that are exclusive to little kids.
"You made me breakfast?"
"Yep!" The grin gets wider, if that's possible.
"By yourself?"
"Yep! I made you breakfast in bed all by myself."
"Did she just say she made you breakfast?" Mike is awake and I can detect a note of panic in his voice. "What did she make?"
"I'm not sure." Abby moves closer and hands over my breakfast. Sitting in the basket is a bowl full of dry Reese's cereal, with a spoon. In the mug, milk with a tiny amount of chocolate syrup stirred in. She sets the basket beside me on the bed and puts the mug on my bedside table. I am stunned and very touched. I have no idea how she even came up with such a plan, but it was a very sweet thing for her to do. And yes I did eat a few bites of the cereal, but had to pretend on the milk. I know it's odd for a chocolate addict like me, but I just can't do chocolate milk.
